Alaskan S.T.C. & Modification

When flying in Alaska, it does not take long to realize that all airplanes are not equal. Some airplanes perform better then other like airplanes. The difference sometimes is performance modifications. Whether you are looking to shorten your landings and takeoffs or maybe just improve your over all performance call Stoddards to see where to start. We are currently working with several Alaskan Facilities that offer S.T.C. installation & modifications to help improve performance & enhance light aircraft maneuverability.

DESCRIPTION

FA Dodge PA-18 Gear Legs, 1 1/4 axle and 1 1/2 axle as well as his 3 inch

F A Dodge long gear step. Approx 38” long. Fits between front & rear legs of
PA-18 landing gear to help make fueling acft easier and also allow easier entrance

F A Dodge Front and Rear Heat Shrouds for PA-18, made of Aluminum, 2 halves
(Top Half and Bottom Half) held together with Worm Gear Clamps. Allows fast
and easy removal to inspect Exhaust Stacks, without damaging (cracking) the shrouds.

F A Dodge has many more modifications and Stc’s. Too many to list here. For
example, Cessna folding and removable seats, super cub folding seats. 30 gal wing
tanks for cubs. as well as many misc parts. Call for more information.

In addition to the above modifications, Stoddards Aero Service Inc. had some Stc’s
but they were sold to Univair Aircraft back in 1973.

Stoddards also had some Auxiliary Fuel Tanks for cub style aircraft. These were sold
to another Aircraft business in 1973, which subsequently shut down. Stc's are now available at Cub Crafters.

Some of the Stoddards modifications now available from us or Univair Aircraft in
Denver, Co. are:

Stoddards installation 0f 0-290 D or D2 engine in PA-12 or PA-12S or J5A aircraft.
Must use Stoddards Short Mount #501. Engine cowl must be shortened and a
different exhaust stack used. Parts & Stc. FAA/PMA/STC'D

Stoddards installation of certain 0-320 series engine in PA-12 or PA-14 . Uses same
Stoddards short mount # 501 as above. Engine cowl must be shortened and exhaust
changed. Parts & Stc. FAA/PMA/STC'D

Stoddards installation of PA-18 Flaps on PA-11. Parts & Stc. FAA/PMA/STC'D

Stoddards crankcase breather modifications for Continental and Lycoming engines.

Univair conversion of the PA-22 to the PA-20 landing gear configuration. (tricycle
to tail-wheel). Requires new landing gear, some bottom cowl modifications and
a tail wheel. (some welding required). Several options available for this conver-
sion. Parts & Stc. FAA/PMA/STC'D

Univair has heavy duty PA-18 landing gear legs available. They were developed
for the rugged use that Alaskan Guides and Bush Pilots put this aircraft through.
The axles can be had in 1 1/4 and 1 1/2 size. Both size axles are made of heavier
and stronger material, and the main gear legs are made with heavier tubing and have
reinforcements and gussets located at the weak points to help prevent breakage.
These gear are great for Big Tires & skis. Parts & Stc. FAA/PMA/STC'D

Univair has also made a heavy duty lower shock leg for the PA-18 gear. This is
the weakest point on the PA-18 gear. These heavy duty shock legs are a must
have. Parts only. FAA/PMA'D

Univair PA-18 tail section. Designed to replace bent, damaged, corroded tail
section. Includes vertical tail post and bottom longerons 43 inches forward of
the tail post. Requires only 6 splices. Tubing for splices included. Parts & Stc.
FAA/PMA/STC'D PA-18

Univair also has PA-18 nose bulkhead section and top deck section and top deck
former section, to help repair and/or rebuild your fuselage. These parts are exact
replacement parts and are FAA/PMA'D. Parts only need 337.

Univair has several Wheel & Brake conversions, utilizing the popular Cleveland
Wheels and Brakes. They have conversion STC’s for both 1 1/4 axle and 1 1/2
axle cub style aircraft (J-3 thru PA20/22). Please call with your requirements.

Univair installation of Continental 0-200 engine in J-3(with standard length
metal spar wings). Requires electrical system and at least 15 Gal fuel capacity.
Also needs new engine mount. (mount available from Univair). Parts & Stc.

Univair replacement ribs for Piper aircraft. J-3 thru PA-25. These ribs are made of
stamped aluminum and are much stronger than the original Piper rib. They can be
purchased individually or in kits for specific wings. AD42-BSLF pop rivets are
used in place of rib stitching. (YEA!!). Parts & Stc. FAA/PMA/STC'D

Univair has 180HP Lycoming engine conversion for PA-22 aircraft. PA-22
must be converted to taildragger. Conversion uses new Dynafocal engine mount.
Cowl must be modified. 3 different types of kits are offered so that a custom
installation is easy to choose. (Lycoming Engine is also available for this

Univair has 180HP Lycoming engine conversion for Stinson 108-1 thru 108-3.
And a 200HP Lycoming engine conversion for Stinson 108-3. Aircraft needs
new mufflers & heat shrouds, new oil cooler and various other parts. Some
aircraft require larger fuel lines. Parts & Stc. FAA/PMA/STC'D

Vortex Generator kits for J-3 thru PA-12 PA-18 thru PA-22, Maule, Aeronca,
Citabria, Husky. VG’s manufactured by Micro Aero Dynamics. Parts & Stc.

We also carry Aluminum Aero Skis , Northern Companion
pre-heaters , Red Dragon pre-heaters, Engine covers, wing covers, tail covers , (in mesh or
nylon) tail skis, cold weather bungees, to help make winter flying easier. Odyssey Light
Weight Batteries. Niagara rear mounted Oil Radiators, and several Light Weight Starters.
(Batteries, Starters, and Oil Radiators and Skis are all PMA'd, but may need STC's for
approved installations). Denso 40 amp Alternators and Brackets available.

In addition to the standard size tires, both McCreary and Goodyear, we also carry the
Goodyear 26 x 10.5 x 6 tire. They make excellent Bush (Tundra) tires. They measure
26 inches tall and fit any 6 in wheel. In Alaska they are used on most any aircraft for
Piper J-3 to Cessna 185 and even some Cessna 206's. They use an 850 x 6 tube and
carry an average of 8 lbs. to 12 lbs. air pressure. The tires are TSO'd but need a 337 Field
Approval for Certificated Aircraft. NOT FAA APPROVED. EXPERIMENTAL
HOME BUILT ONLY. Cubcrafters have the STC for PA-18
